With email tracking through BombBomb, we are able to track multiple elements of a client's engagement with your email. They are:
- Opens - Whether they have opened and looked at your email
- Clicks - If they clicked on any links you provided in that email.
This ability helps you understand who you should follow up with based on the engagement they had with the email you send. Let's break down how each of those tracking elements technically works.
Opens
To track opens, we use picture tracking. A tiny, transparent image that is specific to each receiver is included in the email. The picture is downloaded from the server when the email is opened, and the server logs the download as an "open." Probably the most popular technique for monitoring emails.
* Keep in mind that opening emails you are CC'd on or that have been forwarded could result in false positives.
Clicks
To track clicks, we use unique links that wrap around any "clickable" objects in your email. When a recipient clicks on the object, it gets logged by our server.
If you want to know where you can find your email tracking within BombBomb and how to understand what you're reading, here are a few resources:
* It’s important to note that some Inbox Providers and Mail Apps will block tracking altogether. An example would be Apple's Mail Privacy Protection.
