In some cases, when you're trying to explain how to do something, it's easier to show someone than to tell them. When you're trying to display on-screen activity, this can be difficult - especially if you're trying to be personable with video. Now, with BombBomb's new screen recorder, you can record your screen (and yourself!) while helping someone navigate somewhere on the computer such as your website, an online form, etc.
You can access the desktop screen recorder anywhere you'd access the BombBomb recorder. That's right - anywhere! You can record your screen within the BombBomb application, using the BombBomb Quick Send, while in Gmail, or from a CRM we integrate with. Once you're finished filming, your screen recording behaves just like a normal BombBomb video would and it is accessible through your BombBomb library. Text it, email it, use it in your CRM integrated with BombBomb...the sky's the limit.
To see how this new, convenient feature works, check out the video above!
***Note: if you want to use the screen recorder and save your video to use later, please record from the Videos tab. In the Quick Send, your screen recording will save ONLY if you send it to a recipient. Otherwise, you will lose your recording.)
If you'd prefer to read, here's a step by step:
You can use the screen recorder anywhere you can access the regular BombBomb recorder. To start, open up any source where you have the BombBomb recorder (here, we're using the Quick Send inside the BombBomb application). In the bottom left corner of the recorder, you will now see a Screen Record icon. Click this icon to open up the screen recorder. (Note: if you want to use the screen recorder and save your video to use later, please record from the Videos tab. In the Quick Send, your screen recording will save ONLY if you send it to a recipient. Otherwise, you will lose your recording.)
This will open up the screen recorder application. Click the "BombBombinstaller.pkg" link your first time downloading the application (you will not need to click this after the first installation). The application will begin downloading. If you happen to see a pop-up requesting the download, go ahead and allow the download to proceed.
Once the screen recorder application opens, you will see the camera bubble appear in the bottom left corner of your screen. This is so you can be visible while showing someone around your screen. If you'd like to film without the camera bubble, click the "X" in the upper left of the bubble. If you have an external camera and a laptop/computer camera, the camera used in the screen recorder will use whichever camera you have set as your default in BombBomb. You can always change which camera/microphone you're using by clicking "Settings" on the screen recorder menu.
You will also see a toolbar underneath the camera bubble. The first icon is the "camera mode," where you can switch from recording your screen to closing the screen and recording your face just from your camera (this can be done during recording, too!). The second icon is the "stop" button to stop your recording. All the way on the right of the toolbar is the timer for your recording.
The screen recorder banner at the bottom of your screen can be moved anywhere you want on the screen by clicking and dragging. To pin this banner to the top of your screen for easy accessibility, click the green dot to expand it and set it at the top of your screen. If the screen recorder banner at the top of the screen is in your way, simply click the yellow dot to minimize it again.
If you're using two screens, you can choose which screen you'd like to record by clicking the "Settings" icon in the screen recorder banner. From here, you can select which screen you'd like to record on and then click the "Okay" button. This will save as your default screen to record from until you decide to change it.
To start recording your screen, click the red "Start Recording" button. You will get a countdown from 3 and the recording will start. (Remember, this will record whatever is on your screen. Be sure to put away any sensitive information that you may not want your intended recipient seeing.)
Once the recording begins, you will see a blinking red light next to the timer showing that a recording is in progress. You can also move your camera bubble around the screen as you record. To do this, just click your picture bubble and drag it to wherever you want it on screen. The toolbar will follow it.
Once you're finished with your recording, click the "Stop" button on your toolbar.
You will receive a pop-up after ending your recording letting you know that the video will be available in your original window. Click the "Okay, thanks!" button.
In your original window, the video of your screen recording will populate the video placeholder in your email. For the video, you have the same functionality that you do with a normal BombBomb video - you can re-record, play back your recording, or change the thumbnail. Now you can send off your screen recording!
