How BombBomb Tracks Video Activity

Overview

When you send a video through BombBomb, you can see who watched it, how many times, and whether they clicked any links. This article explains how that tracking works, what it requires, and what its limitations are.

How Tracking Works

BombBomb tracks video engagement using targeted URLs — unique links generated for a specific recipient. When a recipient clicks a targeted URL to watch your video, BombBomb records the engagement and associates it with that person.

Targeted URLs are generated when you send video through:

  • The Outlook email integration
  • Gmail via the Chrome or Edge Extension
  • Outreach
  • Zendesk
  • BombBomb Automated Workflows

Cookies stored in the recipient's browser help BombBomb recognize returning viewers and associate subsequent activity — like a second view or a link click — with the same person.

What Gets Tracked

When a recipient engages with a video sent via a targeted URL, BombBomb can track:

  • Email opens
  • Video plays
  • Link clicks
  • Likes and comments on the video landing page

You can view this engagement data on the Edit Video page for any video in your Workspace.

When Tracking Shows "Someone"

If BombBomb can't identify who watched your video, engagement will appear as "Someone" in your tracking data. See Understanding Anonymous Video Views for a full explanation of when and why this happens.

Privacy and Data

Recipients do not need to log in or create an account to watch your video. The targeted URL and cookie together are what enable identification — no passwords or personal accounts are involved on the recipient's side.

BombBomb adheres to applicable data protection regulations. For more information on how BombBomb handles recipient data and privacy, contact BombBomb Support.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do all video sends generate tracking data? No. Tracking only works when a video is sent through a method that generates a targeted URL — such as the Outlook integration, Gmail via the Chrome or Edge Extension, Outreach, Zendesk, or Automated Workflows. Videos shared via a manually copied link, posted publicly, or sent through other tools will not generate identified tracking data.

Why do I see the same recipient listed multiple times in my tracking? Each time a recipient opens the email or plays the video, a new engagement event is recorded. Multiple entries for the same person reflect multiple interactions.

Can I turn off tracking? Tracking is built into the targeted URL system. If you share a general video link rather than a targeted one, engagement will not be attributed to a specific recipient.
