Overview
The contact details panel shows everything the new BombBomb keeps about one contact: their information and consent status, how strong your relationship is, which lists they're on, and the emails you've sent them. Use it to keep a contact's record up to date and to email them without leaving the Contacts page.
Who this applies to: All users
Plan requirement: Pro, Enterprise
Contacts isn't included on the Essentials plan.
How to Open a Contact's Details
- Click Contacts in the left navigation.
- Click the contact's email address in the table.
The details panel opens on the right side of the page, with the contact's email address at the top and the Details tab selected.
At the top of the panel you'll find:
- Email — send the contact an email. See Emailing a Contact below.
- Suppress — stop the contact from receiving your emails. Suppressing from the panel happens right away, with no confirmation. To reverse it, click Unsuppress in the same spot.
- Relationship badge — the contact's current relationship level and points (for example, Weak 0 pts). The same badge appears on the contact's row in the contacts table.
Below these are four tabs: Details, Relationship, Lists, and Emails.
Editing Contact Information
The Details tab holds the contact's information:
- Email Address (required)
- First Name and Last Name
- Organization and Job Title
- Phone Number
- Company Address, Address Line 2, Country, City, State, and Postal Code
- Any custom contact fields your account has
To update them:
- Click the Details tab.
- Change the fields you want to update.
- Click Save.
🗣️ Note: Save becomes available once you've changed something.
Your changes are saved to the contact and the panel stays open, so you can keep working with the same contact. To throw away your edits instead, click Cancel or close the panel. Unsaved changes are discarded without a warning.
Editing more than one tab? Save only saves the tab you're on. If you change the contact's details, then switch to Lists and click Save, only the list changes are saved. Click Save on the Details tab before you move to another tab.
Understanding Consent Status
Consent Status sits at the top of the Details tab. It records what kind of permission you have to email the contact:
- Implied — you have a reasonable belief that you have permission to send messages. This may occur if you have had a prior business or non-business relationship with the contact but have not obtained express consent.
- Express — the contact has explicitly opted into your marketing communications and given you clear permission to send them emails.
New contacts start as Implied. Click the ? icon next to Consent Status to see these definitions in the app.
Changing Consent Status
- On the Details tab, click Change next to Consent Status.
- Click Implied Permission or Express Permission.
The change saves immediately — you don't need to click Save. Changing consent status doesn't send anything to the contact. To switch back, click Change again and pick the other option.
Understanding the Relationship Tab
The Relationship tab shows how strong your relationship with the contact is, based on their interactions.
- Points and level — the meter shows the contact's points and where they fall across five levels: Weak, Decent, Good, Great, and Fantastic.
- Point expiry — relationship points expire 180 days after each interaction, so the level reflects the contact's recent activity.
- Added — the date the contact was added.
- Last Engagement — the date of the contact's most recent engagement. It shows a dash when there hasn't been one.
- Engagement — the contact's interactions, newest first. Each one shows what happened, the date, and the points it earned (for example, Email Open with +1 point). If there aren't any, you'll see No recent interactions.
The Relationship tab is view-only — there's nothing to edit or save here.
Managing a Contact's Lists
Use the Lists tab to add the contact to your lists or take them off a list.
- Click the Lists tab.
- Click Search lists... and pick the list you want to add the contact to.
- To create a new list, type its name and click Create list "<name>".
- To take the contact off a list, click the remove button next to that list's name.
- Click Save.
If you close the panel without clicking Save, your list changes are discarded. A list you created with Create list stays in your Lists, but without this contact in it.
The History section on this tab shows the lists the contact has been added to and when.
Removing a contact from a list doesn't delete the contact. For more on lists, see How to Create and Manage Contact Lists.
Viewing Emails Sent to a Contact
The Emails tab shows how many emails you've sent the contact (for example, 2 Emails Sent) and lists them. Each email shows its subject, the date it was sent, and engagement such as Opened 1. If you haven't emailed the contact yet, you'll see No emails sent yet.
- Sort — order the emails by Date or Engagements. Engagements puts the emails the contact opened, clicked, and played videos in most often at the top.
- Filter — show emails from All Time, Last 7 Days, Last 30 Days, or Last 90 Days.
Emailing a Contact
- Click Email at the top of the details panel.
- Choose how you want to send:
- QuickSend Email — opens QuickSend with the contact already filled in as the recipient. Enter a Subject and your message, then click Send Email. You'll see Your email is on its way when it's sent.
- Create Custom Email — opens the email builder at Select Template. Build your email as usual; on the Email Details step, the contact is already listed under Recipients.
Don't see the Email button? It's hidden when the contact can't receive your emails — when they're suppressed, or Oversubscribed because you're over your contact limit. If you suppressed the contact yourself, click Unsuppress at the top of the panel and the button comes back.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does changing a contact's consent status send them anything? No. Consent status is a record for you; changing it doesn't send an email or notification to the contact.
Do I need to click Save after changing consent status? No. Consent status saves as soon as you pick Implied Permission or Express Permission. Save is only for edits to the contact's other details and lists.
What consent status do new contacts get? New contacts start as Implied. You can change it at any time from the Details tab.
I switched tabs and my edits disappeared. What happened? Save saves only the tab you're on, and closing the panel discards anything unsaved. Click Save on each tab before you switch tabs or close the panel.
Can I change a contact's email address? Yes. Edit Email Address on the Details tab and click Save. If you already have a contact with that address, you'll see Contact with this email already exists. and the change isn't saved.
Why is the Email button missing from a contact's details? The contact can't receive your emails right now — they're suppressed or Oversubscribed. If you suppressed the contact yourself, click Unsuppress at the top of the panel. See Understanding Contacts in the New BombBomb.
Why does my new contact show Weak 0 pts? A new contact starts with no relationship points. Points build as the contact interacts with your emails and expire 180 days after each interaction.
Can my teammates see or edit my contacts' details? No. Contacts belong to the user who adds them, so only you see and edit your contacts. See Understanding Contacts in the New BombBomb.
