How to Track Video Performance

Overview

BombBomb tracks how recipients engage with your videos — including how many times a video was played, how much of it was watched, whether viewers clicked your call-to-action, and whether they liked or commented. Understanding these metrics helps you evaluate what's working and know exactly when and who to follow up with.

Step-by-Step Instructions

Accessing Your Video Metrics

  1. Click Workspace in the left navigation.

  2. Find the video you want to review. You'll see a summary of Plays, Likes, Comments, and CTA clicks directly in the Workspace view.

  3. Click the video title to open the full detail view with expanded metrics, activity history, and the heatmap.

Plays

Plays shows how many times a recipient clicked play on your video. A play is counted when someone actively clicks the play button — not when an email is opened or a player page is loaded. Each time someone plays the video counts individually, including repeat views by the same person.

Watch Percentage

Watch Percentage shows how much of your video recipients are watching on average. A high watch percentage means your content is holding attention. If watch percentage is low, it typically signals a weak opening, a video that's too long, or content that doesn't match what the subject line or thumbnail set up.

Call-to-Action Clicks

If you added a call-to-action (CTA) banner to your video, BombBomb tracks how many viewers clicked it. This tells you how many people took the next step after watching. CTA click data only appears when a CTA has been added to the video — if this field is empty, no CTA was set.

Likes and Comments

Viewers can interact with your video directly on the player page.

Likes are a thumbs-up reaction viewers can leave to express appreciation or acknowledge your message.

Comments allow viewers to leave written feedback or ask questions. Comments are only visible to you within your BombBomb account — other viewers cannot see them.

Both likes and comments appear in your video's detail view and in your Insights feed, so you'll know exactly who engaged and when.

The Heatmap

The heatmap gives you a second-by-second breakdown of how your video was watched. Each segment of the video is represented as a bar, and darker bars indicate portions that were watched more frequently. Hover over any bar to see the exact view count for that segment.

Use the heatmap to identify where viewers drop off, which parts they rewatch, and whether your call-to-action lands at a moment of high or low engagement. It's the most granular view of video performance BombBomb offers.

Activity Feed

The Activity section of the detail view shows a chronological log of every engagement event on that video — plays, comments, likes, and CTA clicks — along with the viewer's name or email address where available. Use this to prioritize follow-up with your most engaged viewers.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why do I see a high play count but a low watch percentage? This usually means viewers are starting the video but losing interest quickly. A weak opening, a video that's longer than necessary, or a mismatch between what your subject line promised and what the video delivers are the most common causes. Try a stronger hook in the first few seconds, or trim the video down.

Why aren't CTA clicks showing up? CTA tracking only works when a call-to-action banner has been added to the video. If no CTA was set, that field will be empty. Check the video's edit screen to confirm whether a CTA was added.

Can other viewers see comments left on my video? No. Comments are only visible to you within your BombBomb account. Viewers cannot see each other's comments.

Does a play count if someone opens my email but doesn't click play? No. A play is only counted when a recipient actively clicks the play button. Email opens are tracked separately.
