Recommended Browser Settings

Overview

BombBomb Engage works best when your browser is configured correctly. This article covers the settings that have the biggest impact on recording quality, camera access, and overall performance.

Who this applies to: All users Plan requirement: Core, Core + Copilot, Enterprise

Supported Browsers

For the best experience, use the latest version of one of these browsers:

  • Google Chrome (recommended)
  • Microsoft Edge

Older browser versions may work but are not officially supported. Internet Explorer is not supported.

1. Allow Camera and Microphone Access

BombBomb needs permission to access your camera and microphone before you can record. When you open the recorder for the first time, your browser will prompt you — click Allow.

If you missed the prompt or accidentally blocked access, follow the steps in Troubleshooting Recording Issues to reset your permissions.

2. Keep Your Browser Up to Date

Always use the latest version of your browser. Updates include performance improvements and security fixes that directly affect recording reliability.

To update Chrome:

  1. Click the three-dot menu (⋮) in the top-right corner.
  2. Click Help > About Google Chrome.
  3. Chrome will check for updates automatically. If one is available, click Relaunch to apply it.

To update Edge:

  1. Click the three-dot menu (⋯) in the top-right corner.
  2. Click Help and feedback > About Microsoft Edge.
  3. Edge will check for updates automatically. Relaunch if prompted.

3. Enable Hardware Acceleration

Hardware acceleration offloads video processing to your GPU, which improves recording performance and reduces lag. It's enabled by default in most browsers — but if you've ever turned it off, turn it back on.

To check in Chrome:

  1. Go to chrome://settings/system
  2. Make sure Use hardware acceleration when available is toggled On.
  3. Restart Chrome if you made a change.

To check in Edge:

  1. Go to edge://settings/system
  2. Make sure Use hardware acceleration when available is toggled On.
  3. Restart Edge if you made a change.

4. Close Unused Tabs and Applications Before Recording

Only one application can use your camera at a time. If Zoom, Teams, FaceTime, or another browser tab is actively using your camera, BombBomb's recorder will fail or produce degraded results.

Before recording:

  • Close any application using your camera or microphone.
  • Close unnecessary browser tabs, especially video-heavy ones.
  • Avoid running large file uploads or downloads in the background.

5. Use a Stable Internet Connection

Recording quality is directly tied to your connection speed and stability.

  • A wired Ethernet connection gives the most reliable results.
  • If using Wi-Fi, stay close to your router and avoid congested networks.

Still Having Trouble?

If you're still experiencing issues after checking these settings:

  1. Close all other applications using your camera and try again.
  2. Restart your browser.
  3. Restart your computer.
  4. If the issue is specifically with camera or microphone access, see Troubleshooting Recording Issues for a full step-by-step walkthrough.
