Who this applies to: All users (senders and viewers)
Plan requirement: Core, Core + Copilot, Enterprise
Note: Captions and transcripts are only generated for videos that are at least 20 seconds long.
For Viewers
Turn Captions On or Off
- Open the video on its player page.
- Click the three-dot menu (⋮) in the lower-right corner of the video player.
- Click Captions to toggle closed captions on or off.
Read the Transcript
If a transcript is available for the video, a Transcript tab will appear next to the Contact tab on the right side of the player page.
- Click the Transcript tab to open it.
- The transcript displays timestamped text synced to the video.
- Click Follow Video to have the transcript automatically scroll to keep up with the current playback position.
For Admins
Captions are enabled by default and we recommend keeping them on. Captions and transcripts are an accessibility feature that meaningfully improve the viewer experience — they allow people to follow along in noisy environments, watch without sound in public or open offices, and absorb your message even if they can't play audio. Turning captions off reduces the reach and impact of every video your team sends.
To check or change this setting:
- Go to Account Settings in the left navigation.
- Click the Permissions tab.
- Confirm Video Captions is toggled on. Only turn this off if you have a specific reason to do so.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why doesn't the captions option appear in the video player menu? Captions must be enabled at the account level by an Admin. If Video Captions is turned off in Account Settings, the option won't appear for viewers.
Can I download the transcript? Not currently. Transcripts are viewable on the player page but cannot be downloaded.
Are captions available in languages other than English? Yes. Captions and transcripts are auto-generated based on the language of the speaker in the video — viewers cannot select a different language. The caption language will match whatever language was spoken when the video was recorded.
