Troubleshooting the BombBomb iOS App

Overview

If the BombBomb app on your iPhone or iPad is crashing, freezing, failing to send videos, or behaving unexpectedly, work through the steps below in order. Most issues are resolved by the first two or three steps.

Who this applies to: All UsersΒ

Plan requirement: Core, Core + Copilot, Enterprise

Before You Start

Check that your device is running a supported iOS version and that you're connected to the internet. If you're on a VPN, try disabling it β€” VPNs can interfere with video uploads and app connectivity.

Step 1: Force Close and Reopen the App

This clears temporary glitches and is always the fastest first step.

  1. Swipe up from the bottom of the screen and pause in the middle to open the App Switcher.
  2. Find the BombBomb app preview and swipe up on it to close it.
  3. Wait a few seconds, then tap the BombBomb icon to reopen it.

πŸ—£οΈ Note: Be sure the app is completely closed before reopening.

Step 2: Check Your Internet Connection

Video recording and sending require a stable connection with sufficient upload speed. A weak or inconsistent connection is the most common cause of videos failing to send.

  1. Open a browser and go to speedtest.net or fast.com.
  2. Run the speed test and check your Upload Speed. BombBomb requires a reliable upload connection β€” if your upload speed is below 5 Mbps or inconsistent, that's likely your issue.
  3. If you're on Wi-Fi and seeing poor results, try switching to cellular, or move closer to your router.
  4. If you're on cellular, try switching to Wi-Fi.

Step 3: Confirm App Permissions

BombBomb needs access to your camera, microphone, and photo library to record and send videos. If any of these are denied, recording or uploading will fail silently or with an error.

  1. Open the Settings app on your iPhone.
  2. Scroll down and tap BombBomb.
  3. Confirm the following are toggled on (green):
    • Camera
    • Microphone
    • Photos (required if you're uploading videos from your camera roll)
  4. Return to BombBomb and try again.

Step 4: Check for App and iOS Updates

Running an outdated version of the app or iOS is a common cause of crashes and unexpected behavior.

Update the BombBomb app:

  1. Open the App Store.
  2. Tap your profile icon in the upper-right corner.
  3. Scroll down to find BombBomb under available updates.
  4. Tap Update if one is available.

Update iOS:

  1. Open Settings.
  2. Tap General β†’ Software Update.
  3. Install any available updates.

Note: After updating iOS, force close and reopen the BombBomb app before testing again.

Step 5: Clear App Storage

Over time, cached data can cause the app to slow down or behave unexpectedly. You can clear this without uninstalling the app.

  1. Open Settings.
  2. Tap General β†’ iPhone Storage.
  3. Scroll down and tap BombBomb.
  4. If an Offload App option is available, tap it. This removes the app but keeps its data, then reinstalls a fresh copy when you reopen it.

Step 6: Reinstall the App

If none of the above steps resolve the issue, a clean reinstall is your best option. This removes all cached data and gives you a fresh install.

Via iPhone Storage (recommended for persistent issues):

  1. Open Settings.
  2. Tap General β†’ iPhone Storage.
  3. Scroll down and tap BombBomb.
  4. Tap Delete App, then confirm.
  5. Open the App Store, search for BombBomb, and reinstall it.

Via Home Screen:

  1. Press and hold the BombBomb icon until a menu appears.
  2. Tap Remove App β†’ Delete App to confirm.
  3. Open the App Store, search for BombBomb, and reinstall it.

Note: Reinstalling the app will not delete your BombBomb account or any videos. Your account data is stored on BombBomb's servers. You'll just need to log back in after reinstalling.

Step 7: Check Notification Settings

If you're not receiving Assignment notifications or alerts from BombBomb, your notification permissions may be turned off.

  1. Open Settings.
  2. Tap Notifications β†’ BombBomb.
  3. Make sure Allow Notifications is toggled on.
  4. Confirm that Alerts, Sounds, and Badges are enabled based on your preference.

This helps Support diagnose your issue faster.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why won't my videos send even though I have a good connection? Check that the app has permission to access your camera and microphone (Step 3). Also confirm you're not on a VPN. If the issue persists, try force closing the app and resending.

The app crashes every time I open it β€” what do I do? Start with Step 4 (update the app and iOS), then proceed to Step 6 (reinstall). Crashes on open are almost always resolved by one of these two steps.

Will reinstalling the app delete my videos or account? No. Your account, videos, and data are stored on BombBomb's servers. Reinstalling only removes the local app. You'll need to log back in after reinstalling.

I updated the app but I'm still having issues. Force close the app completely after updating, then reopen it. If the problem continues, proceed to Step 5 (clear app storage) or Step 6 (reinstall).

I'm not getting notifications for my Assignments. Go to Settings β†’ Notifications β†’ BombBomb and make sure Allow Notifications is enabled. Also check that Do Not Disturb or Focus mode isn't blocking BombBomb alerts.

The app is asking for camera or microphone access but I already allowed it. Go to Settings β†’ BombBomb and toggle the permissions off, then back on. Sometimes a permission reset resolves the issue without a full reinstall.
