Overview
If the BombBomb app on your Android device is crashing, freezing, failing to send videos, or behaving unexpectedly, work through the steps below in order. Most issues are resolved by the first two or three steps.
Who this applies to: All Users
Plan requirement: Core, Core + Copilot, Enterprise
Before You Start
Check that your device is running a supported Android version and that you're connected to the internet. If you're on a VPN, try disabling it — VPNs can interfere with video uploads and app connectivity.
Step 1: Force Close and Reopen the App
This clears temporary glitches and is always the fastest first step.
- Open Settings on your device.
- Tap Apps (or Apps & notifications).
4. Select BombBomb and "Force Close" or "Force Stop"
- Find and tap BombBomb.
- Tap Force Stop and confirm.
- Wait a few seconds, then reopen the app from your home screen or app drawer.
Step 2: Check Your Internet Connection
Video recording and sending require a stable connection with sufficient upload speed. A weak or inconsistent connection is the most common cause of videos failing to send.
- Open Google and search speed test.
- Tap Run Speed Test in the Google speed test widget.
- Check your Upload Speed when the test completes. BombBomb requires a minimum of 10 Mbps upload speed to reliably record and send videos.
- If your upload speed is below 10 Mbps or inconsistent, try switching between Wi-Fi and cellular, or move closer to your router.
Step 3: Confirm App Permissions
BombBomb needs specific permissions to function correctly. If any are missing, recording, sending, or notifications may fail.
To access permissions quickly:
- Tap and hold the BombBomb icon on your home screen.
- Tap App Info.
- Tap Permissions.
- Review and enable the permissions BombBomb needs:
- Camera — required to capture video from your phone's camera during a recording.
- Microphone — required to capture audio during a recording.
- Notifications — required to receive push notifications when a recipient watches your video.
- Contacts and Accounts — allows BombBomb to auto-complete recipient email addresses from your phone contacts when sending via email. Not required for Engage subscribers.
Step 4: Check for App Updates
Running an outdated version of the app is a common cause of crashes and unexpected behavior.
From within the BombBomb app:
- Open the BombBomb app.
- Tap the Settings gear icon.
- Scroll to the bottom to see your current app version.
- Tap the Notification Bell icon to check for available updates.
From the Google Play Store:
- Open the Google Play Store and tap your profile icon in the top-right corner.
- Tap Manage apps & device.
- Under the Overview tab, tap Updates available.
- Tap Update next to BombBomb, or tap Update all.
Step 5: Clear the App Cache
Cached data can cause the app to slow down or behave unexpectedly. Clearing the cache removes temporary files without deleting your account data or videos.
- Open Settings.
- Tap Apps → BombBomb.
- Tap Storage.
- Tap Clear Cache.
Step 6: Reinstall the App
If none of the above steps resolve the issue, a clean reinstall is your best option. Follow Google's official instructions for uninstalling and reinstalling Android apps: How to uninstall apps on Android.
After reinstalling, open the Google Play Store, search for BombBomb, and tap Install.
Note: Reinstalling the app will not delete your BombBomb account or any videos. Your data is stored on BombBomb's servers. You'll need to log back in after reinstalling.
Step 7: Check Notification Settings
If you're not receiving Assignment notifications or alerts from BombBomb, your notification permissions may be off.
- Tap and hold the BombBomb icon and tap App Info.
- Tap Permissions → Notifications.
- Make sure notifications are enabled.

Frequently Asked Questions
Why won't my videos send even though I have a good connection? Check that the app has Camera and Microphone permissions enabled (Step 3). Also confirm you're not on a VPN. If the issue persists, force close the app and try again.
The app crashes every time I open it — what do I do? Start with Step 4 (update the app), then proceed to Step 5 (clear cache) and Step 6 (reinstall). Crashes on open are almost always resolved by one of these steps.
Will reinstalling the app delete my videos or account? No. Your account, videos, and data are stored on BombBomb's servers. Reinstalling only removes the local app. You'll need to log back in after reinstalling.
I'm not getting notifications for my Assignments. Tap and hold the BombBomb icon, tap App Info → Permissions → Notifications, and make sure notifications are enabled. Also check that Do Not Disturb mode isn't blocking BombBomb alerts.
Do I need to enable Contacts permission? Only if you want BombBomb to auto-complete recipient email addresses from your phone contacts when sending emails through the app. This permission is not required for BombBomb Engage subscribers.
