The BombBomb Gmail Extension lets you record and insert videos directly from your Gmail compose window — without leaving your inbox. This article covers installing the extension, granting Gmail access, and recording and sending videos from Gmail.

Who this applies to: All Users

Plan requirement: Core, Core + Copilot, Enterprise

Known Limitations

  • You must be logged in to your BombBomb account to use the extension.
  • The extension works in Chrome and Edge browsers only.
  • The "Send with Template" option visible in the extension is for BombBomb Classic users only and is not supported in BombBomb Engage.
  • For browser version requirements and hardware recommendations, see BombBomb System Requirements.

Step 1: Install the Extension

  1. Go to the BombBomb Extension page in the Chrome Web Store.

  2. Click Add to Chrome, then click Add Extension to confirm.

  3. The BombBomb icon will appear in your Chrome toolbar after installation.

If you don't see the icon, click the puzzle piece (Extensions icon) in your toolbar, find BombBomb, and click the pin icon to keep it visible.

Step 2: Log In to BombBomb

  1. Click the BombBomb icon in your Chrome toolbar.
  2. Log in with your BombBomb account credentials. You can log in with an email and password or via SSO if your organization has it configured.

Step 3: Grant Gmail Access

After logging in, the extension will prompt you to grant permission to access Gmail.

  1. Click Allow to complete the integration.
  2. Open Gmail — you should now see the BombBomb icon in your compose window toolbar.

If you don't see the icon in Gmail after granting access, refresh Gmail and confirm the extension is enabled in your browser.

Step 4: Record and Send a Video from Gmail

  1. Go to gmail.com and click Compose in the top-left corner to open a new message.
  1. In the compose window, place your text cursor where you want the video thumbnail to appear in the email body.
  2. Hover over the BombBomb icon in the compose toolbar — the record button will appear.
  1. Click Record to launch the BombBomb recorder.
  1. Choose your recording type: webcam only, screen only, or screen with webcam overlay.
  2. Click the red Record button to begin. Click Stop when finished.
  3. Add a title for your video and click Save.
  4. The recorder will close and an animated video thumbnail will appear in your compose window at the location of your cursor.
  1. Add your recipients, subject line, and message text, then click Send.

To insert a video you've already recorded instead of recording a new one, click the BombBomb icon in the compose toolbar and select from your existing video library.

What Happens After You Send

BombBomb tracks engagement on videos sent through Gmail. When you send to a single recipient, BombBomb identifies that recipient by name in your tracking data so you can see who opened your email and clicked your video. For emails sent to multiple recipients, engagement is tracked but recipients are not individually identified.

View tracking data in the Insights section of BombBomb Engage.

FAQs

The BombBomb icon doesn't appear in my Gmail compose window. Make sure the extension is installed, you are logged in to your BombBomb account, and the extension is enabled in your browser. Refresh Gmail after installing. If it still doesn't appear, go to your browser's Extensions menu, confirm BombBomb is turned on, and refresh again.

Where does the video thumbnail appear in my email? The thumbnail inserts wherever your text cursor is placed in the compose window when you click Record. Position your cursor before hovering over the BombBomb icon.

Can I insert a video I've already recorded? Yes. Click the BombBomb icon in the compose toolbar and select a previously recorded video from your library.

I see a "Send with Template" option — can I use it? No. This option is for BombBomb Classic users only. If you are on BombBomb Engage, use the standard Gmail compose workflow described above.

Does this work in Edge? Yes. The BombBomb Edge extension is functionally identical to the Chrome extension. See How to Install and Use the BombBomb Edge Extension for installation steps.
