How to Set Up and Use Notifications

Overview

Notifications tell you when someone engages with your videos and emails — a watch, a like, a comment, an email open, or a link click — so you can follow up while the moment is fresh. You read them in the Notifications panel in the sidebar, and you choose which ones you get in the app and by email on the Notifications tab of your settings.

Who this applies to: All users

Plan requirement: Essentials, Pro, Enterprise

Notifications about your emails (Email Opens, Email Link Clicks, and Sends) need a plan that includes Email: Pro or Enterprise. Email isn't included on the Essentials or Core plans.

Known Limitations

  • Your panel filter and which notifications you've read are saved in your browser. In another browser or on another computer, the filter starts with every type shown and the unread count is tracked separately.
  • Email Opens and Email Link Clicks are in-app only. BombBomb doesn't send notification emails for them.

Understanding In-App and Email Notifications

Each notification type has up to two switches, and they do different things:

  • In-App — controls whether that type counts as new in the Notifications panel: highlighted as unread and added to the count on the sidebar's Notifications button. When it's off, those events still appear in the panel's list, but they never show as unread. To hide a type from the list, use Filter in the panel (see below).
  • Email — controls whether BombBomb emails you when it happens. Only Video Watches, Video Likes, and Video Comments have an Email switch. Email switches don't change what you see in the panel.

Neither switch changes the Recent Engagement feed on your Dashboard.

Choosing Your Notification Settings

  1. Click your account avatar in the bottom-left corner of the sidebar.
  2. Click Profile.
  3. Click the Notifications tab (next to Profile, Email & Password, and Player Page).
🗣️ Note: You can also get here from the Notifications panel — click the gear icon (Notification settings) at the top of the panel.
  4. Turn the In-App and Email switches on or off for each notification type.

Each change saves as soon as you flip the switch, and a Changes Saved message confirms it. There's no Save button. If a change can't be saved, the switch flips back and an error message appears — try again in a moment.

What You Can Configure

Under Engagement Notifications:

  • Video Watches — someone watches one of your videos. In-App and Email.
  • Video Likes — someone likes one of your videos. In-App and Email.
  • Video Comments — someone comments on one of your videos. In-App and Email.
  • Email Opens — someone opens an email you sent. In-App only, on Pro and Enterprise plans.
  • Email Link Clicks — someone clicks a link in an email you sent. In-App only, on Pro and Enterprise plans.

All In-App switches start on. Your Email switches keep the email notification choices you had before this tab was added.

Using the Notifications Panel

  1. Click Notifications (the bell icon) in the sidebar.
🗣️ Note: When you have unread notifications, a count appears next to Notifications. With the sidebar collapsed, you'll see a dot on the bell instead.
  2. Scroll the list. The newest engagement is at the top, and each row shows when it happened, what happened, and which video or email it's about.
  3. Click a notification about a video or a sent email to open that video's page or the email's tracking page. The panel closes when the page opens.

A notification stays unread until you click it or click Mark all as read. Just opening the panel doesn't mark anything read.

While the panel is open, you can:

  • Filter by type — click Filter, then check or uncheck Opens, Plays, Clicks, Sends, Likes, and Comments. All checks or clears every type. Types you hide also stop counting toward the unread count. If you clear everything, the panel shows "No notifications match your filters."
  • Mark everything read — click Mark all as read to clear the unread count. Your notifications stay in the list. The button is greyed out when nothing is unread.
  • Change your settings — click the gear icon to open the Notifications tab.
  • Close the panel — click the X.

Seeing Sends? Sends show emails you've sent. They have no switch on the Notifications tab — to hide them, uncheck Sends in Filter.

Notifications Panel vs. Dashboard Recent Engagement

Both show recent engagement on your videos and emails, but they serve different purposes:

  • Notifications panel — what's new for you. It includes email opens and sends, tracks what you've read, and follows your In-App settings and filter.
  • Recent Engagement on the Dashboard — a running history of plays, clicks, likes, and comments, with search. It doesn't include opens or sends, and your notification settings don't change it.

To learn more about Recent Engagement, see How to Use Your Dashboard.

Frequently Asked Questions

I turned off a notification type. Why do I still see it in the panel? The In-App switch only stops that type from showing as unread. To hide it from the list, uncheck it under Filter in the panel.

I'm not getting notification emails. What's wrong? Only video watches, likes, and comments send notification emails — Email Opens and Email Link Clicks are in-app only. For a video notification, check that the Email switch is on for that type on the Notifications tab. If it's on, look in your spam or promotions folder, and confirm your address on the Email & Password tab.

Can I turn off all notifications? Yes. Turn off every Email switch to stop notification emails, and every In-App switch so nothing shows as unread. The panel still lists your recent engagement; use Filter to hide the types you don't want.

Why is my unread count different on another computer? Read status and your filter are saved in each browser, so marking notifications read in one browser doesn't clear them in another.

Why don't I get notifications for email opens, clicks, or sends? These come from emails you send with BombBomb Email, which is included on the Pro and Enterprise plans. Email isn't included on the Essentials or Core plans.

Where did the notification checkboxes on my Profile tab go? They moved to the Notifications tab, where they're now the Email switches. Your existing choices carried over.

The panel says "We couldn't load your notifications." What should I do? Click Try again. If it keeps happening, refresh the page or contact support.
