Overview
The screen recorder lets you record a browser tab, a single window, or your entire screen, with or without your camera. Use it for product walkthroughs, demos, or to talk a client through a document while they watch.
The browser screen recorder works in Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge, with nothing to install. In other browsers, Record Screen still uses the BombBomb desktop screen recorder app.
Who this applies to: All Users
Plan requirement: Essentials, Pro, Enterprise
Known Limitations
- The browser screen recorder works in Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge only. Other browsers use the desktop app — see Recording in Other Browsers below.
- Screen recordings are captured at up to 1080p and 30 frames per second.
- Your camera can appear in the video only when you record your Entire Screen.
Choosing What to Record
When you click Record Screen — in the recorder, on the Dashboard, or in the New Video menu in your videos — you choose what to capture:
- Browser Tab — records one browser tab. This is a good choice when everything you're showing is in one tab, and it can include that tab's sound.
- Window — records one application window, such as a spreadsheet or a slide deck.
- Entire Screen — records everything on one display. This is the only option that can include your camera.
When you record a tab or a window, a small floating timer window opens with the countdown, the elapsed time, and a Stop button, so you can keep track without switching back to BombBomb. When you record your entire screen, a floating camera window opens instead.
Recording Your Screen in Chrome or Edge
- Open the recorder: click Record Video in the left navigation, or go to your videos and click New Video → Record Video.
- Open the recorder settings and choose your Microphone if you want to narrate.
- Click Record Screen, then choose Chrome Tab, Window, or Entire Screen.
- In your browser's sharing dialog, select the tab, window, or screen you want and confirm.
- To include a tab's sound, turn on audio sharing in the sharing dialog before you confirm.
🗣️ Note: The floating timer or camera window opens on its own once you confirm. If it doesn't, click Open timer window or Add my camera.
- Wait for the 3-2-1 countdown. Recording starts when it ends.
- When you're finished, click Stop recording.
While you record, a red dot and an elapsed timer show that recording is in progress. Your microphone and the shared audio are recorded together. You can also stop by clicking Stop in the floating window or your browser's Stop sharing button.
Starting from the Dashboard or the New Video menu? Clicking Record Screen there opens the recorder and shows the same choice: Chrome Tab, Window, or Entire Screen. Pick one and continue from step 4.
Don't leave or close the page while you're recording. If you try, your browser warns you first, and leaving discards the recording.
Adding Your Camera
When you record your Entire Screen, your camera appears in a floating window.
- Move the floating camera window to a spot on the screen you're recording.
🗣️ Note: If the camera window doesn't appear, click Add my camera.
The recorder captures whatever is on that screen, so your camera appears in the video only while its window stays on the recorded screen. To record without your camera, close the floating window — the recording keeps going.
Saving Your Recording
When you stop, BombBomb uploads your recording right away and shows its progress (Uploading Video). Stay on the page until it finishes.
When the upload finishes, your video is saved automatically and its Video Details page opens. From there you can add a title, trim it or stitch it with other videos, and share it.
Recording in Other Browsers
In browsers other than Chrome and Edge, Record Screen uses the BombBomb desktop screen recorder app. For help installing and launching it, see Troubleshooting Screen Recorder Issues.
Troubleshooting: Screen Recording Won't Start
If you see Your browser or system blocked screen capture. Allow screen recording for your browser and try again., your computer isn't letting your browser record the screen.
- Allow your browser to record your screen in your computer's privacy or security settings.
- On a Mac: open System Settings, go to Privacy & Security → Screen Recording (Screen & System Audio Recording on newer versions of macOS), and turn on Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge. Then quit your browser completely and open it again.
- Go back to the recorder and click Record Screen again.
If you closed your browser's sharing dialog without choosing anything, nothing is recorded. Click Record Screen to start over.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need to install anything to record my screen? Not in Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge — the screen recorder runs right in your browser. Other browsers use the BombBomb desktop screen recorder app instead.
Why can't I share my screen? Your browser and your computer both need to allow screen sharing. If your browser says screen capture was blocked, allow your browser to record your screen in your computer's privacy or security settings, then try again.
Why don't I see Record Screen? Your account admin may have turned off screen recording for your account. Your admin can turn it back on under Admin → Account Settings → Permissions → User Permissions → Screen Recorder.
Can I record just my webcam or just my screen? Yes. To record only your webcam, use Record Video. To record only your screen, choose Chrome Tab or Window, or close the floating camera window when you record your Entire Screen.
Why isn't my camera in my screen recording? Your camera can only be included when you record your Entire Screen, and its floating window must stay on the screen you're recording.
Why doesn't my recording have sound from the tab? Your browser shares a tab's sound only when you turn on audio sharing in its sharing dialog. Turn it on before you confirm the tab.
Does the browser screen recorder work in BombBomb Classic? No. BombBomb Classic still uses the desktop screen recorder app.
